The Birthday boy.

OK so this is going to be a short blog, due to the fact that most of the things planned for the kids... let's just say they didn't want to participate. They loved the dino egg hunt and were floored when they opened up the eggs for candy and found.... drum roll... you guessed it, dinosaurs (thank you target for having tons of dino things in the $1 isle this week). They loved it as well as decorating dino cookies. I must say the cutest thing about the whole day was Spencer deciding he was going to make out with one of the guests. Caroline's daddy told her "Give Spencer a goodbye birthday kiss". Spencer started dancing around with his arms out for a hug like, "come on baby" and just laid one on her... for a long time. hee hee. I guess we'll have to stop kissing in front of them. *ahem* (clearing throat uncomforatbly) Anywho we had fun. Here's the little two year old *sniff*

My baby's two and other news

So yesterday and today were/are huge for us. First off today is Spencer's birthday. *sniff* my baby's two years old!! Who says raccoons aren't cute?

Megan got accepted into the Montessori program here to begin in the fall. There was a lottery and 8 openings. She got in!! Yeah!! *sniff* my baby's going to school.... maybe if mommy lets her and is able to part with her. *sniff*.

We got new bikes! The kids did anyway, I think after our vacation is saved up for we will save for bikes for the fam. BTW bikes are onsale at kmart.com both the 12 inchers and 20 inchers for $19.95. Very cute! Both were too big for Spencer so he got a vintage Radio Flyer tricycle. I wanted to splurge and get him the retro schwinn one at costco. com but hey he's 2 and doesn't need a $70 tricycle. His is plenty cute and for some reason less expensive than a plastic, yes plastic hot wheels car. This is the one he got. He LOVES it! Refuses to pedal but hey you can only ask so much from a kid. He like it though when mommy pushes him from behind. Which is fun for mommy too because she gets to "ride" along with him on the cool step. Old fashioned toys are the best! This thing is huge by the way. We lowered the seat all the way and while sitting on it Spencer can barely reach the ground or the pedals. But hey he'll grow and he likes pushing it with his feet while sitting on it.

Ahhhhhh Sundays

So a peaceful Sunday you assume? Ha! Today was Ward Conference and all that entailed... after a sleepless night (yep I was sick but couldn't call in sick to church because... you guessed it, ward Conference) Actually it wasn't bad at all. I just wasn't looking forward to it because we were having people "observe" us instead of taking over which I've only experienced in the past. So after church we go home, yep walking around for 2 hours (in case you forgot I'm the primary secretary) did not help the stomach ache that I had. I laid down to rest while the kids were playing in the other room. Kev got home and was working on the computer when we heard it. Bam! Cry.... Oh boy. Kev went running then was yelling "Ness! Ness! Need Help!". Spencer had decided to do something, what we don't know however we have a feeling it involves climbing and split open his nose. Blood everywhere I might add. It was a pretty good gash across the bridge of his nose. Away to the ER we went to have either a stitch or glue put on. I was annoyed because the PA didn't completely wash out the clot in his wound before glueing it so it looks open a bit. she said "oh it's not nearly as deep as I thought it was". Um open it up wash out the clot and see for yourself how deep it is. Even the med student was annoyed. She just tried to glue it shut over the clot deep down which is not condusive to closure so it still looks open a bit. But oh well, if he scars he'll be one of those really handsome men with interesting scars to brag about. At least we know he's healthy. Of course this is after a 4 hour nap after getting home. He's doing good. This is the best pict I got of him. He decided he did not want his picture taken. You can't really see it but the red part is the part that's quasi-opened. It's sealed on the sides of the red. The cut actually extends from where his eyebrow goes down in the pict to 3/4 of the way across his nose. Yep it's a doozy. And no I did not overreact. I specifically asked if this was something that really wasn't bad and i was overreacting. She said no for that level of cut she would bring him in everytime. I asked because I'm positive this is not the last time we will be at the ER. Although I must say it looks pretty pathetic now in the picts. It does extend farther than the red in my defense.... it was also the first time I've had to deal with an injured baby. *sniff*Needless to say he's quite proud of himself.

How do they know?

How do kids do it? You have a day off (Saturday) a day in which you can sleep in and boom your kids are up at the crack of dawn. 6:oo baby in the AM. Then on the days you actually need to get up early for work and school your little alarm clocks that wake up at 6 EVERY other day decide to sleep in. Yep, "oh mom and dad you have something to do, we are going to sleep in, we'll see you early on Saturday when you actually want to sleep in". Ugh. ON a high note I was able to shower for ummmm the first time? in the morning without having someone say "mommy where are you? Mommy? You taking a bath? Mommy, I need milk. Mommy, I need to go potty, Mommy, I'm hungry".... etc. fill in the blanks I've heard them all.

Easter Sunday

So our Easter was definitly different as well as exhausting and yet fun at the same time. Kevin and I were planning on a very fun relaxing day with the kids. I was going to make some pork chops with some yummy sides for dinner and it was going to be really laid back. We were going to take picts of the kids... the only one we came up with was this one...

OK so that was the plan. But, plans go awry as did ours. Some of our good friends are getting their bathroom redone... their only bathroom. I come to find out that their bathroom is still not done and the contractor's power tools are all across the dining room and the kitchen, meaning no Easter dinner. So being the nice person that I am I invited them over. Ahhh the rub. Mom, you taught me too well. Yes I do invite people over without thinking about it, until I get home and realize there is not enough food in the fridge to feel my family and another family of 5. I have 2 medalion pork chops. No tortillas so Mexican food was out. I turn to my Father's teaching. I made homemade raviolis. Yummmmm..... unless you are making them by hand without a pasta roller.... and upon finishing your raviolis (flour and egg, insides: ricotta cheese, parmesean and parsley) you remember that the woman you are feeding is gluten intollerant... meaning no flour or wheat based product. PANIC!!! However, yours truly does think well on her feet an provided enough sides to compensate for the lack of a really good meal. It was fun once they got here and relaxed with us, crazy up until that point but utterly and completly worth it. We had a wonderful visit. Megan benefitted because they brought Roxie's old dress up clothes so Megan now has a full fledged dress up kit (including 3 sparkle dresses, a Sleeping beauty dress, gloves, crowns, headbands, and 5 pairs of dress up shoes, pom poms and a bucket full of beads) I can definitly say I love not thinking twice about inviting someone over. I might regret it for a couple of hours while I'm scrambling to make sure Ihave something to feed them when they come over for dinner but it is totally worth it. Thanks Mom.

Inauguration

So I've received and inaugurated the kitchen aid. It is a beautiful machine and I plan on using it to it's fullest extent. Due to the fact that Kevin and I need to eat healthy (aka we've both inherited our father's cholesterol) we have decided to go the whole wheat and oat route. Meaning we've mostly become vegetarians (not by choice) and have started the whole wheat thing. Anyway we are loving it. You don't realize how much better you feel when you actually do eat healthy. However, on that note the plan was to make some whole wheat and oat ginger scones with a nice raspberry sauce on top. All natural stuff as well as using Splenda for the sweetener. I will make that tonight for dinner, however the kids needed junk first off. So for the inauguration I've made triple chocolate cookies. Yummmy. I had one bite and made myself sick because I'm not used to eating trash anymore. Ugh. It was yummy however much the stomach rebels. Hee hee. Note to self: after eating nothing but healthy stuff with a temporary relapse on your birthday where you ate Thai food and had chocolate cake and got sick do not attempt to eat triple chocolate cookies when you are not used to eating that much stuff. You will make yourself sick.

Pleasantly Surprised

There are a couple of books I can say growing up that I've hated. Yes I know it's a strong word but yes hate is the appropriate word. In school I had to read Tuck Everlasting. I hate this book. I don't know why I don't like it but because I was so disgusted by it I actually threw it against the wall, but, because it was for a school assignment I had to pick it up again... and promptly threw it again. Another one of the books I can say I've hated has been the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe. Again I couldn't stand it. You see because I'm a lover of reading even if I don't like a book I NEED to finish it. Yes it is NEED. Unless it is one of these two books. I've revisited them as an adult with the same experience, utter dislike... Anyway I received the Narnia, lion witch and wardrobe movie for my birthday. And for lack of anything else to do Kevin and I watched it. I was impressed. I was really surprised because I liked it. Doesn't mean I'm going to pick up the books anytime soon but I really liked the movie. :-) Yea! for Hollywood!

Medical School

Yesterday I forgot we were having company over. Oops. Luckily I remembered with enough time to actually fix dinner. I fixed Mexican food, enchiladas, beans and rice. Yea! For Mexican food that you can pull out of a hat in a crunch! I then asked several other people to join us as well. We had 3 other Med-students and families over. It was really nice. Especially the whole adult interaction thing. It's interesting to see each of us going through the same thing and each of us handling it differently. It sure is a diverse experience, this med school thing. We have to decide this weekend in which order Kevin's going to take his rotations. Rotations for medical school are the times where the medical students are actually in the hospital and clinic doing some hands on learning. Each rotation consists of 12 weeks and varies greatly in intensity and on-call nights. Right now we are thinking 1st- peds/ob (pediatrics for 6 weeks, ob for 6 weeks), 2nd Surgery (This way he can take it early enough to be recognized for it but he's not with the "gunners"), 3rd Smalls (2 weeks for each of the following or pick and choose, anethesia, radiology, pathology... I can't remember the rest), 4th internal medicine (adult care in hospital). Hopefully this will be a good set up. He'll have to turn in his list in the next week or so. We'll hear back at the end of April what the up coming year will be like. They warn you about how intense each rotation is. For surgery apparently it supposed to be 18 hour days 7 days a week. ugh. I know Kaori, one of the other med-school wives said she didn't see her husband during those 12 weeks. Ugh. That'll be interesting. With Peds/ob sometimes the students are called 5 times a night. To give you an idea, when a Dr. is paged it's usually the medical student who's called first to go do the initial assessment... who then informs the resident doctor. It's going to be a LONG year. Interestingly enough we are both so extremely excited about it though because it'll seem like we are actually making progress on this whole 4 years experience. I can't wait for him to be with patients. He is always so happy when he is seeing patients vs. Being in the classroom. I'm excited for him. He's been working towards this for a very very long time. It's fun to be able to be here while his he's fulfilling his dreams. I'm happy to be apart of it and to know that I had a hand in helping him get here. :-) He starts July 6 with his first rotation.

happy birthday to me!

Today is my birthday. Yea!!! I am now 27 years old. So far I've had the best birthday ever. Mom got me a kitchen aid mixer (first one ever). Too bad Kevin was also planning on that so he had to think of something else. Hee hee. I got flowers from him though, which were absolutely beautiful and a gift card from my MIL. Loooveeed it! Yea! The kids have been super sweet and we've been having fun today. They are all napping. smiles!

Leonard

So this post is for my family and the joke involved. Can anyone say Leonard? Should I be worried about this? Everytime Megan has to wash her hands this is what happens. And you get after me when I say she has OCD tendencies. :-)

Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.....

Or the cherry tree but hey let's not be critical as to the acuracy of what kind of tree it was. So see the morning we made an attempt to go see the cherry blossoms. There were 2 storms supposed to roll through today. One was supposed to sprinkle this morning and the other one storm this afternoon. We decided to shoot the gap and go mid morning. I am soooo glad we did. The pictures are self-explanitory so I'll let you enjoy. Yes my kids are dressed alike for photo opportunity (portrits... etc). E is the one in the blue. This is the Cherry Blossom Festival and the reason why it's a big deal. We are at the Jefferson Memorial.

The early bird catches the worm...

and gets to play rooster. My son is the inevitable rooster. He has to be the first one up and then tries every possible means to wake everyone else up in the house. This morning he was up at 6am and proceeded to run his bus (singing the wheels on the bus the whole time) against everyone's closed doors. And that was only the beginning. We then moved on to dumping out all the blocks and throwing them at walls, taking a very noisy telephone on a chord around the house slamming doors etc. All in an effort to get everyone up. We however have discovered he will do this to get you up so that he can cry at you the rest of the morning because he's tired. Yep, we've decided we are just going to stay in bed from now on when he wakes up (with pillows over our heads). I've even taken to setting out a sippy cup of water and a bowl of dry cereal out the night before so that he has one less ammunition against me in the mornings. Bad mommy.
