keening

Vocabulary word for the day keening. These are "sharp cries and wails". Interestingly enough keening can also be used to describe repetitive sound or cry associated with rocking. Keening is usually used for laments for the dead (can you picture in your mind the little lady wrapped in a shawl rocking and crying?). Banshees also keen. I've seen the description of keening as such, "notes rising and falling like the waves of the sea" Anyway why keening? Because E keens. All day. Sigh. We are trying to break him of it. He doesn't do it because he's upset, he just makes a sharp repetitive whine/cry thing all day long. It's kind of an absent minded thing that he does. Did you know that a certain form of torture is to have a repetetive noise over and over again. These noises have a little variance to them so that it's not white noise. It is noise however. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Note: coming back from vacations stinks.
